Republicans Debate
October 10, 2007
The Republican debate will be shown tonight on MSNBC.
Ron Paul was the same– he almost gave a left analysis of the US economy, but of course, his solution is always the “free market.” He gave a nice lecture on the US Empire, but he doesn’t realize that it’s our economic system that requires this empire. Free markets have to continually increase, looking for new markets for products. If they don’t, the free markets stagnate. To keep markets open, you have to force countries to do so. That’s how imperialism got its start. Also, imperialism buys off the restive population here (for the time being) and allows our rulers to shove down our throats all sorts of reactionary things. Ron Paul gets some of this, but he doesn’t get much what imperialism is and what causes it.
Rudy is a late-blooming strict constructionist. He thinks he’s a mix between Ronald Reagan and Winston Churchill, but he’s more like Ronald McDonald.
McCain wants the same things as Rudy. I can’t tell the difference.
Duncan Hunter (Ann Coulter’s love) came across as some kind of right wing populist, as did noted xenophobe Tom Tancredo. These guys remind me of the Freikorps.
Mitt Romney makes me want to vomit, regardless of what his policies are. He hates dogs and loves torturing them. He’s like Michael Vick in Mormon form.
And Fred Thompson’s “Southern Charm”– something that doesn’t exist– well, it fell flat. He’s about as interesting as a dog turd. He’s a horrible actor; he can’t even play president.
